OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, who says she does not own a car, has been fined C$273 ($200) for speeding in her home province of Alberta, a spokesman for Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Tuesday.
Freeland spokeswoman Kathryn Koblinskas said Freeland was caught driving at 132 kilometers per hour (82 mph) between Grande Prairie and Peace River, and the ticket was paid in full.
The news was first reported by the Counter Signal website.
Koblinskas did not say when the accident occurred and what the speed limit on this section of road is. The speed limit on highways in Alberta is 110 km/h.
Freeland is a lawmaker who represents a parliamentary congressional district in downtown Toronto, Canada’s largest city, and is often photographed riding her bike.
“The fact that still shocks my parents is that I don’t actually own a car,” she told reporters last month.
“I walk, I take the subway. My kids walk, they ride their bikes, they take the subway – it’s actually healthier for our family,” she said.
