In the absence of the French clubs, the draw for the knockout stages of the Europa League has led to a number of good matches, particularly for the English clubs, with Manchester United facing Real Betis and Arsenal playing against Sporting Portugal.
A number of beautiful posters emerged from this Friday’s Europa League draw for Matchday 8, notably Manchester United-Real Betis and Sporting Portugal-Arsenal. Easy draws for French club winners
For their part, the French clubs may regret it. Stade Rennes, FC Nantes and AS Monaco were all three relegated clubs with very accessible draws. Juventus, for example, face SC Freiburg while Bayer Leverkusen host Hungarian club Ferencvaros in the first leg. Shakhtar Donetsk take on Feyenoord.

But the poster that sees Nabil Fekir’s Real Betis take on Nabil Fekir’s Real Betis as Manchester United, who qualified at the expense of FC Barcelona (win 4-3 on aggregate) in the play-offs, should cheer most supporters. Manuel Pellegrini’s men finished top of their group ahead of AS Roma in the group stages. In recent seasons, the Red Devils have faced several Spanish clubs in the European Cup: Granada, Real Sociedad, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Villarreal and Sevilla FC. But they have never faced Real Betis in an official match before.
