Delegates introduced themselves after a triumphant entrance as they simulated a Mardi Gras parade while a local band performed boisterous, vibrant jazz.
More than eighty candidates representing their countries competed for the Miss Universe title during the 71st annual pageant launched from the Big Easy with new hosts and a new network.
