The Newport Beach Police Department issued a statement Wednesday regarding its investigation into Oklahoma City Thunder shooting guard Josh Gedi’s alleged relationship with a minor.
The NBPD said in a press release, “The Newport Beach Police Department is aware of information circulating online involving an alleged relationship between professional basketball player Josh Guede and a minor. The Newport Beach Police Department is actively seeking additional information related to these allegations and is following up on all Clues and evidence to reach the facts of the case.”
TMZ Sports reported yesterday that Gedde was the subject of a police investigation in relation to allegations of a relationship with a minor.
The report said NBPD was investigating allegations regarding Giddey that were posted on the social media site “X” during Thanksgiving week from anonymous sources.
This came after the NBA confirmed late last week that it was looking into the allegations.
According to TMZ Sports, the department is looking into the allegations “to see if there is any truth to the allegations and if any laws were violated.”
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault was asked about the police investigation earlier Tuesday before his team played the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“I’m not going to comment on anything related to Josh off the field,” Denault told Oklahoman reporter Joel Lorenzi.
The coach confirmed that Guede would play against Minnesota on Tuesday night, which he did. However, every time Gedi touched the ball, he was met with boos from the Goal Center crowd.
