While the men’s Royal Rumble match went in with a clear favorite to win – and Cody Rhodes did just that – the women’s Royal Rumble match had no such combo to work with. No, They Gone Tonight (Saturday, January 28, 2023), a 30-woman battle royal over the rope at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, with a blank canvas to tell a story to create WrestleMania title match.
They told that story by inserting Rhea Ripley from Judgment Day in first place, lasting over an hour, and eventually scoring three of the final four eliminations — and six total eliminations — to punch her ticket to WrestleMania and a championship match of her choosing.
