England captain Owen Farrell can start the Rugby World Cup in France (September 8-October 28) after the disciplinary committee overturned his red card against Wales on Tuesday.
The opener was suspended for up to six weeks for a dangerous tackle on Welshman Dane Basham in the 63rd minute of England’s win (19-17).
The decision to exclude him was made by the “Bunker,” a referee who has the opportunity to review pictures from an isolated location during the meet.
He could play against Ireland on Saturday
A panel of Australian officials finally challenged the disqualification: “The committee has not confirmed this red card and the player can play again immediately”.
So Owen Farrell could lead the de la Rose XV from their next warm-up matches against Ireland on Saturday and Fiji on August 26.
England begin their World Cup campaign against Argentina on September 9, which also includes Japan, Chile and Samoa.
