Hebra Alcidawi is a 12-year-old schoolgirl who attends College Rouget-de-Lisle in Lance-les-Chaniers. She reads a lot and loves English, and in April 2023, Heba sees a poster in her English class announcing a big English competition across Europe. “The Big Challenge” was developed by a group of English teachers who set up this competition in all colleges.
After his brother, he wins the competition
“Immediately, I wanted to participate because my brother Ibrahim already participated in the competition in 2019 and he won it. I wanted to do the same as him. My English teacher Valérie Guillemot encouraged me and the big day was on May 4. »
In a room at the college, participants answered 45 questions on English, general culture, grammar, and comprehension. It was a question to answer in tick boxes, and Heba answered the questions very quickly without making any mistakes. Rarely.
“I waited till June 6 to check the results online. How proud I am: first in the sixth form of college, first in the Jura, first in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, and 41e Out of 60,000 in France. It is a great satisfaction for me and my parents are also proud. »
He came from Syria a few years ago
A pride rather than a difficult course for his family. “We came from Syria a few years ago and our life has not always been easy, so it fills us with joy to see our children Heba and Ibrahim succeed in their studies. Our daughter is very resourceful from an early age, she studies a lot and manages her schoolwork on her own, a real passion for our princess, ” explains Heba’s parents Khalil and Fatima Alsidawi.
The speaker presented Heepa with a medal, a trophy, two diplomas and an amazing t-shirt autographed by all her classmates, presented by the college.
“Being an Architect”
But Heba is already thinking about the future: “I want to be an architect like my uncle: to build beautiful buildings, towers, houses, but because I’m good at English, I want to go to countries where I can continue. Speak English. »
A few more years of study will make Heba’s dream come true.
