Assassin’s Creed Mirage doubles as a traditional Assassin’s Creed game

When it was first announced last year, Ubisoft was framed Assassin’s Creed Mirage As a traditional Assassin’s Creed title – something of a return to the original plot of the series, before it embraced the open-world RPG elements that defined Assassin’s Creed Origins and her successors.

While we haven’t yet seen the actual gameplay from Mirage, the developer was happy to reiterate his vision of a smaller, more focused historical outing. In a new interview with GamesRadarCreative Director Stéphane Boudon confirms the team’s commitment.

“Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla are all great games with the promise of living out an epic journey in a powerful fantasy. Their scopes are calibrated to fulfill those ambitions as they all embrace RPG mechanics. But among our fans, we’re beginning to hear the desire for a character-driven story, focused on the core pillars of hardware. The first adaptation was on a more intimate scale. It resonated with us as well as with the developers and that was the starting point of the project,” says Bowdon.

The director goes on to detail the ways Mirage takes inspiration from the older games – while also refining various concepts. There’s talk of a “richer, denser map,” and a reworked social stealth system that’s supposed to be more dynamic. You’ll also be able to “reinvent” a host of stealth tools to better suit your playstyle.
