Carlos Santana apologizes for anti-transphobic comments at New Jersey concert caught on video – Deadline

Carlos Santana vows to change his evil ways.

The 76-year-old guitarist apologized today when anti-transphobic comments he made during a concert in New Jersey in July resurfaced in a video post on social media.

And the guitarist appears in the clip, saying: “When God created you and me, before we came out of the womb, you knew who you are and what you are.”

He continued, “Later on when you get older, and you see things and you start to believe that you could be something that looks good, but you know that’s not true, because a woman is a woman and a man is a man – that’s it.”

Santana added, “Whatever you want to do in the closet, that’s your job, and I’m OK with that.” He then mentioned his “brother Dave Chappelle”, who also made some controversial remarks about transgender issues.

Today, Santana posted on his Facebook page an attempt to make amends.

He began, “I’m sorry for my insensitive comments.”

“It does not reflect that I want to honor and respect the ideals and beliefs of every person (sic). I realize that what I said hurt people and that was not my intention. I sincerely apologize to the transgender community and everyone I have offended,” he continued in his statement.

Santana claimed that his “personal goal” is to “honor and respect the ideals and beliefs of every person (sic) whether they are LGBTQ or not”. This is the planet of free will and we are all given this gift. I will now pursue this goal to be happy and to have fun, and for everyone to believe and follow what they want in your hearts without fear.
