CEFM* and the Union of the French-speaking Press of Monaco are presenting a conference-discussion on April 8, 2024 at 6:30 pm at the Théâtre des Varietés de Monaco, “Is English also a French-speaking language? Others? » Presented by international lawyer Anthony Lacoutre.
Monaco Conference – French Ambassador to Monaco HE Mr. Jean d'Haussonville, Michelle Mauduit-Pallanca, President of Monaco's French Mutual Aid Committee at the Maison de France and Patrice Zehr, President of the Prussian Francophone Union, on the history of the English language from the date of the invasion of England by William the Conqueror in 1066 and the impregnation of French in it Monaco invited international Franco-English lawyer Anthony Lacoutre to discuss his work. During his conference, Anthony Lacoutre will explain the unique historical circumstances that allowed this true linguistic invasion and present the different types of approximately 25,000 French words that exist in the English language. Anthony Lacoutre He is a lawyer by training. His last name is of Gaelic origin, “La Thiel” meaning “hazelnut” or “hazel tree” in Celtic. He started his career as a lawyer in France in 1992 and then moved to New York in 2004. With a British mother and French father (of Norman descent!), she speaks both English and French on a daily basis. He is the author of two works: “Here Impressionism was Born”, in which he discusses the birth of Impressionism at the bend of the Seine between Bougival and Louveciennes and “The Incredible History of French Words in English”.
