Algeria's national airline, Air Algérie, is switching to Arabicizing all its official correspondence, as well as replacing French with English, local press announced on Friday.

The decision, revealed on Thursday April 11 by the Algerian Arabic-language newspaper “Echorouk”, concerns the speeches of the CEO of Air Algérie, exchanges with foreign embassies in Algeria and contacts with administrations.

As part of this language shift, the national airline's staff will be trained in English, which is widely used internationally.

According to the “Echourouk” report, the initiative aims to strengthen the sense of belonging to the country and affirm the national identity, according to the constitution that establishes Arabic as the national and official language of the state.

Since 2019, authorities have made efforts to promote the use of English in the country's schools and public administrations.
