Martin Amis knew no other life than writing. It was the only occupation he enjoyed, and the rest of his time was divided equally between his father (Sir Kingsley Amis), his children (he had six), his wife (the writer Isabelle Fonseca), his friends, and England. He left his charming London home for America after being pelted with plenty of tabloids, but to the end of his days, in 2023, he was very English, which means more charming and disarming than anything else.
