Online matches against random players will be available in the following three sports of the game:

How do I register for the Nintendo Switch Sports Online Play Test?

Registration opens on February 15 at the following times in North America (and in theory in Europe, although that has yet to be confirmed):

  • 5 PM PST / 8 PM EST / 1 AM GMT (16 February) / 2 a.m. CET (16 February)

The exact way to register isn’t clear at the time of writing, but it likely involves registering your Nintendo account via a link in the Nintendo Switch Online app on your Switch console.

Enrollment is only available to players with an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, although this includes anyone currently using the service via a free trial.

Nintendo notes that “registrations are limited,” so if you desperately want an early look at the game before its release in April, be sure to sign up sooner rather than later.
