Pearson opens bookings for the new PTE Korea English Proficiency Test for Canada Economic Migration Visa

London, January 30, 2024 /CNW/ – Pearson (FTSE:PSON.L), a global leader in learning, today announced that bookings for PTE Korea's latest English Language Proficiency Test are now open. The PTE Korea test received approval from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) last year and can now be used to provide evidence of English proficiency for permanent economic immigration to Canada or Canadian citizenship. The first PTE Core tests can be taken from February 12.

PTE Core is a new addition to Pearson's English test portfolio that shares many of the unique features of the PTE Academic exams. It is a two-hour computer-based test taken at a testing center that tests the four main English skills: speaking, writing, listening and reading. The main difference is that PTE Core is suitable for the professional test taker and is designed with a real-life, non-academic focus. It was developed to meet Canada's unique immigration requirements and IRCC language requirements, but it can be used to assess the English proficiency of people taking professional exams in any country.

Every year, Canada welcomes hundreds of thousands of permanent residents, temporary foreign workers, students and visitors. Canada It also supports family reunification and the protection of refugees and people at risk. With a greater focus on supporting Canada's economic recovery and post-pandemic growth, IRCC is better able to meet the growing demand for its immigration status program in the coming years. Given the high demand in Canada for professionals in fields such as nursing, engineering and web development, the approval of the PTE Core English Essential Test comes at a good time for test-takers, while opening up new opportunities for Pearson.

The PTE Core was developed in response to Canada's economic migration needs. In addition, IRCC has adopted the PTE Academic Test as a recognized English proficiency test for all student direct stream visa applications from August 2023 – it is already recognized by 97% of universities and 95% of colleges in Canada. The United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand governments also accept the PTECore test for all visa applications. The PTEAcademic test is accepted by all Australian, New Zealand and Irish universities and 99% of British universities.

The fully digital PTE Core test is administered by PearsonVUE, Pearson's computer-based testing company. New AI technology provides enhanced security measures for scoring and collecting biometric data. These state-of-the-art technologies ensure an unbiased and highly accurate English proficiency test.

Additionally, PTE Core test takers can register online up to 24 hours in advance, take advantage of testing center locations worldwide throughout the year and receive their results within an average of 2 days.

The test will be rolled out across Pearson's existing network of over 400 PTE centers in 118 countries. This includes 25 testing centers across Canada.
