London, January 31, 2024 /PRNewswire/ —Pearson(FTSE:PSON.L), the world's leading learning company, today announced that bookings for PTE Korea's new English Language Proficiency Test are now open. PTE Korea received approval from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) last year, and can now issue certificates of English proficiency for permanent economic immigration to Canada or Canadian citizenship. The first PTE Core tests can be taken from February 12.
PTE is a new addition to the core portfolio Pearson test English shares many unique features of PTE education. It is a two-hour computer-based exam, taken at a testing center, that tests the four main English skills: speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing. The main difference is that PTE Core is tailored to professional exam candidates and focuses on real life, not academics. It was developed to meet Canada's specific immigration requirements and IRCC language proficiency requirements, but can also be used to assess the English skills of professional test takers in any country.

Every year, Canada welcomes hundreds of thousands of permanent residents, temporary foreign workers (TFWs), students and visitors. Canada Supports family reunification and protection of refugees and people at risk. With a greater focus on supporting Canada's economic recovery and post-pandemic growth, IRCC is evolving its tiered program to better meet growing demand in the coming years. Canada Professionals in fields like nursing, engineering and web development are in high demand. The approval of PTE Core is therefore timely and opens up new opportunities for Pearson.
The PTE Core was developed in response to Canada's economic migration needs. At the same time, PTE Academic has been accepted by IRCC as a recognized English proficiency test for all SDS (Student Direct Stream) visa applications from August 2023. It is already recognized by over 97% of universities and 95% of higher education institutions in Canada. British, Australian and New Zealand governments also accept PTE tests for all visa applications. PTE is accepted by 100% of Australian, New Zealand and Irish universities and 99% of British universities.
The fully digital PTE Core test is offered by Pearson VUE, Pearson's computer-based testing company. The latest artificial intelligence technology used in scoring and biometric data collection provides enhanced security measures. These state-of-the-art technologies ensure an unbiased and highly accurate test of a candidate's English skills.
Additionally, candidates can register online for PTE Korea 24 hours in advance, take advantage of test center time slots around the world, and receive their results within two days on average.
PTE Core will be deployed across Pearson's existing network of over 400 PTE centers in 118 countries. The network includes 25 testing centers across Canada.
