Season 2 of Amazon’s Invincibles finally got a release date, as well as a new promo

While everything is coming to a halt due to the writers and actors’ strike, some shows that have already been finalized fizzle out over the next few months. And one of them, Invincible Season 2, we’ve been waiting forever.

Amazon just released a new trailer for Invincible’s second season, mainly showcasing its vast voice cast. But it also has a release date, November 3, 2023. The entire first season debuted in April of 2021, which means it’ll be basically two and a half years between seasons one and two.

Why did Invincible season 2 take so long to come out? Take your pick: The Pandemic, creator Robert Kirkman’s legal troubles with an alleged invincible co-creator, and of course the basic fact that… animation takes way too long. Most anime fans are used to falling into very long waiting times between seasons for certain shows.

The trailer doesn’t give much of the plot away, but we do know it’s about the multiverse, and it doesn’t follow the trend, it’s from the source material, and it’s said to be handled a little better than what we’ve seen from the MCU lately.

Like I said, the main point of the trailer is to show off the voice cast, which already includes Steven Yeun, JK Simmons, Sandra Oh, and Gillian Jacobs. But in addition to the old cast, we have an insane amount of new members, including (deep breath):

Sterling K. Brown, Rob Delaney, Calista Flockhart, Phil LaMarr, Luke MacFarlane, Tatiana Maslany, Scott McNairy, Jay Pharoah, Ella Purnell, Tim Robinson, Ben Schwartz, Rhea Seehorn, Lea Thompson, Paul F. Tompkins, Chantelle VanSanten, Peter Cullen.

No doubt you recognize many of these names either through direct work or from their vocal work. Some big characters get in there, which isn’t much of a surprise, given the season 1 voice cast. The best is probably Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime, whose character appears at the end of the trailer.

If you haven’t watched the two-and-a-half-year-old season 1 of Invincible yet, I highly recommend you do so before November 3rd. Yes, it’s another bloody superhero spin-off like The Boys, but it’s just as good in many ways and still somewhat dramatically different and definitely something of its own. Give it a try while the rest of us are drooling for season two, which has finally arrived.
