Spain scorers in the final, England U23 champions

England lifted the Euros with a 1-0 win over Spain in Georgia on Saturday, their third win of the tournament. The hero of the English hopefuls’ nicknamed “Young Lions” is James Trafford: the Manchester City-trained goalkeeper kept his clean sheet during six matches of the tournament and saved a penalty in the last minute of extra time.

However, the best attack of the tournament (13 goals) and the attack against Ukraine in the semi-final (5-1) promised that the task would be difficult against “Rozhita”, who was in the festival. But the young Englishmen were more dangerous in the first act which was marked by several technical errors and a significant number of fouls on both sides. Led by Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, active at the attacking level, they created several chances before Chelsea defender Levi Colville’s (44th) header found the post.

Minutes later, the Iberian took advantage of a bad foul near the penalty area to open the scoring with a free kick by Citizen Cole Palmer, who was deflected by one of his teammates near the wall (1 -0, 45th+4).

Nervousness

So nervous, as evidenced by the seven yellow cards collected and the poor gestures they were guilty of, the Spaniards were too confused to hope for a comeback. If a polished performance allowed “Rojita” to reach the final, this time it was too clumsy to exist, as captain Abel Ruiz (90th + 9 ) was sent off by a poorly taken penalty and Trafford.

English Hobbs, who are behind Germany in the rankings, were crowned for the third time in history at the continental level, 39 years after their last title.
