Country music icon Reba McEntire The national anthem was sung before Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers faced in 2024 Super Bowl On Sunday, February 11th.
The three-time Grammy Award winner has a special history with the song. McEntire was discovered as a singer 50 years ago at the 1974 National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma when she sang the national anthem, according to her website. She has performed the national anthem on numerous occasions since, but this was her first Super Bowl performance.
“This is not my first rodeo! I never imagined when I sang the national anthem at the National Finals Rodeo 50 years ago that I would be singing it today at the Super Bowl,” she said Sunday before the game.
McIntyre entered Allegiant Stadium for the Super Bowl about 3 1/2 hours before kickoff on Sunday wearing a puffy gray fur coat and holding the hand of her partner Rex Linn.

“I am honored to be part of an event as large and historic as the Super Bowl, which will be held in Las Vegas for the first time.” McIntyre said When the performance was announced.

McIntyre sat down with the “CBS Mornings” hosts in January Talk about how she was preparing For performance.
“You warm up like you're doing a concert and sing it about five or six times, and then you get in there and do that,” McIntyre said.
The singer said that her manager told her about this opportunity.
“He said they wanted me to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, and I said, 'Oh my God. Well, let me think about that,'” McIntyre said in January. “And Rex Lane, my friend, who is a huge football fan, said to me: ‘Yes, you will. Absolutely.’” So that's where we are.”
