Why and how to save Provençal? Quai des Anglais Martigues Bouches-du-Rhône
Michel Feltin-Palas struggles to reconcile France with its diversity. So French does not become our private language, but our common language. at the Luis Aragon Media Library in Marticus, Island District.
Journalist at L'Express, Michel Feltin explains an intellectual's commitment to reconciling France with its diversity. This includes preserving our regional linguistic heritage.
In the minds of the majority of French people, the so-called regional languages are nothing more than vulgar patois; Pathetic corruptions of the French language; Words that are vague enough to describe ordinary days. Why should we move for their destruction?
Now, as all scientists know from a linguistic point of view, Basque, Breton, Alsatian, Provençal, Picardy, Reunion Creole and others do not envy French, English, Arabic, Mandarin or Russian. The only difference between minor languages and major languages is that the former are unlikely to become official languages of a state. This makes them minority languages and minority languages, but by no means sub-languages.
As always, ignorance leads to negligence. Little did anyone know that in the 12th century Picard's dignity was at least equal to that of the king's tongue. Frédéric Mistral won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904 for a work on Provençal. The oldest Breton alphabet dates to the end of the first millennium.
A language is not only a way of communication, but also a way of looking at the world, a different way of thinking, a cultural creation of mankind. .
