A British couple won €205 million in EuroMillions but quickly lost their prize after failing to pay for the ticket, The Sun reports.
This is news to be celebrated. Unfortunately, happiness soon turned to disappointment.
In February 2021, Rachel Kennedy and her boyfriend Liam McGrogan, aged 19 and 21, won the €205 million EuroMillions jackpot, The Sun reported. However, the couple, who live in Hertfordshire, could not touch a penny of this amount. For good reason, they lost everything they earned because of non-payment.

At the time, Rachel had taken out a subscription to automatically play the same EuroMillions numbers every week. And his numbers came out. Couples were notified via text that they had won the race. “I called the number thinking I had won 205 million euros and they said ‘yes, you have the correct numbers, but there is no money in your account for the ticket payment, so it is not a win'”she told The Sun.
The young woman, a student at the time, did not have enough cash to pay for the €2.90 ticket. “I was heartbroken when I heard the man on the phone saying we didn’t buy tickets.”, she declares. Her boyfriend Liam was also devastated by the news: “I was already envisioning our dream house and dream car, and to be fair I think I’m getting a little carried away.
