Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown, who was capped 23 times by Sunderland and internationals with the Three Lions, has been declared bankrupt, according to the English press.
Seven English league titles, two Champions Leagues, but also one FA Cup, one League Cup and two Community Shields. Far from always being an undisputed starter, Wes Brown took part in one of Manchester United’s golden years, racking up trophies in the early 2000s under Sir Alex Ferguson.
A mishandled divorce?
From his professional debut in 1998 until his departure in 2011, he played over 360 games for his parent club and earned the respect of the Red Devils fans. The rest of his career was spelled out at Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and even in India, where he hung up his boots five years ago. Wise since retirement, the 23-cap former England defender is at it again this Thursday. And not really for good reasons.
According to several British media outlets including Glass, he was declared bankrupt by the High Court. This may come as a surprise when his long-term salary at Manchester United is estimated at £50,000 a week (or around €57,000 at current rates). This bankruptcy may be connected to his recent divorce. He split last year from his partner Lennon, famous for a reality TV show, with whom he had three children.
Wes Brown, 43, will join British dignitaries and other former footballers in May to raise funds to help victims of the 2017 attack in Manchester.
