Jones was supposed to defend his UFC heavyweight title against Miocic, a former champion, in the main event of UFC 295 on November 11 in New York. Jones tore his pectoral tendon from the bone during practice Monday night, and will need surgery that will keep him out for about eight months, White said.
The vacant light heavyweight title fight between former champion JiYí Procházka and former middleweight titleholder Alex Pereira will now headline the card at Madison Square Garden. A new fight will also be added as a co-main event: Tom Aspinall vs. Sergei Pavlovich for the interim heavyweight title.
Miocic will no longer compete on the card with the high-profile fight against Jones lost. It was billed as Jones, the best fighter in the history of mixed martial arts, against Miocic, the most successful heavyweight fighter of all time in the UFC.
Sources said the hope is to continue rebooking Jones vs. Miocic is up for a big card in 2024.
