Rugby: England international Billy Vunipola arrested by Spanish police for drunk driving

England rugby player Billy Vunipola has been arrested after a violent incident in a Mallorcan pub, a British newspaper reported. Daily Mail. According to the report, a 31-year-old man, who was completely drunk, was taunted twice after police rushed to the Epic bar in the island’s capital, Palma, at 4:30 a.m. Sunday following calls from security personnel.

Local reports indicate that this sportsman is actually this Englishman who has seventy-five caps with fifteen caps of the rose. Billy Vunipola, who was born in Australia to Tongan parents and moved to England with his family as a child, took off his shirt and threatened customers and staff with bottles and chairs.

The big 1.88m and 126kg Englishman would not have been hit by the first Taser volley shot the police used on him after clearing the bar to try to defuse the situation. Nevertheless, police subdued and handcuffed him after using the Taser a second time.

Released on bail?

Vunipola, a number eight in Saracens’ Premiership rugby team, was later rushed to Son Espasest Hospital, near the pub where he ran amok. Considered a prisoner, Billy Vunipola had to be sedated and tied to his bed. Several security guards and police officers had to monitor him until the drug took effect.

He was brought to court on Sunday wearing the same blue T-shirt and brown shorts in which he was arrested following the early morning incident. Yet, according to the Daily Mail, he appears to have been released on bail pending further investigation.

Police and judicial officials are yet to make an official comment, but an official statement is expected on Monday.
